After you've collected ancestor names for your ancestral altar, it is advised that you determine whether one or more of the ancestors committed acts in life that were not exemplary of your family's values (i.e., a thief, murderer, philanderer, drug addict, suicide - anyone who brought disgrace or shame on the family), you should be prepared to ask the Ancestors if that entity in your family tree should be removed from the list (perhaps temporarily, perhaps permanently) until such time as you have conducted sufficient rituals of respect that you "uplift" the ancestors and, by doing so, "cleanse and clear" the spirit of the ancestor (and your lineage) who did not meet family standards and expectations. Just because a name is in your lineage does not mean that you should call that name. The energy invoked might cause disruptions in some part of your life.
